Kendriya Vidyalaya, Minambakkam, now a PM SHRI school (Parliamentary Constituency : Sriperumbudur), came into existence in May 1972. Airports Authority of India (NAD) is the sponsoring agency and the Regional Executive Director, AAI (NAD), is the Chairman of the Vidyalaya Management Committee. It is in the civil sector and located in Kanchipuram district of Tamilnadu. The highest class in Science as well as Commerce Streams is Class XII.
The institution has grown from strength to strength over the years and has emerged as a premier institution, promoting sound education. Recognizing its tradition of quality education, this Kendriya Vidyalaya was chosen as a Model School by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan in 1997.
The Vidyalaya which was initially situated in the Airport Quarters, was begun with Classes I to X, with two sections in each class.Later, it was shifted to Airport Lease Land, in its own building in the year 1983.The Vidyalaya then had Classes I to XII with two sections in each class.Classes XI and XII had two streams – Science and Commerce. The number of sections had increased to three in the year 1987and by 1999, the number of sections in classes IX and X had increased to three each. Currently, the Vidyalaya has a strength of more than 1600 students, and three sections in all classes: I to XII.

Ideal location, easy access by rail and road, adequate infrastructure, sprawling campus, vast playgrounds, affordable fee structure, fully equipped laboratories, well-stacked library with updated information, appropriate teacher-pupil ratio and a computer lab with 66 computers, with internet facility, are the salient features of this Vidyalaya. There are three playgrounds – one for cricket, one for hockey and football, and one for other games and sports.
Our Vidyalaya is now a PM SHRI School under the flagship scheme, from the year 2023.
