Kendriya Vidyalaya, Minambakkam (Parliamentary Constituency : Sriperumbudur), came into existence in May 1972. Airport Authority of India (NAD) is the sponsoring agency and the Regional Executive Director AAI (NAD), is the Chairman of the Vidyalaya Management Committee. It comes under Civil sector and located in the Kanchipuram district of Tamilnadu State. The highest class in Science as well as Commerce Stream is XII Std. The institution has grown from strength to strength over the years and has emerged as a premier institution promoting sound education. Recognizing its tradition of quality education this Kendriya Vidyalaya was chosen as a Model School by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan in 1997.
The Vidyalaya which was situated in the Airport Quarters earlier, was shifted to Airport Lease Land in its own building in the year 1983.The Vidyalaya had Classes I to XII with two sections in each class. Later the Vidyalaya gradually expanded the number of sections from three to four for classes IX and X and two to three sections in other classes. Now the Vidyalaya has strength of about 1600 students and above.
The Vidyalaya begun with only two sections in each class from I to X in the year 1972. Later the number of classes grew by including the classes XI and XII with two streams – Science and Commerce stream. The number of sections increased to three in each class in the year 1987. The number of sections increased to four in classes IX and X in the year 1999. Presently, the Vidyalaya has three sections in classes I to VIII, four in Classes IX & X and two streams in classes XI and XII.
The Vidyalaya was established in the Airport Quarters in the year 1972. Later it was shifted to the present campus in the year 1983. Vidyalaya in the present campus:
Ideal location, easy access by rail and road, adequate infrastructure, sprawling campus, vast play ground, affordable fee structure, fully equipped laboratories, well-stacked library with updated information, appropriate teacher-pupil ratio and a computer lab with 66 computers along with internet facility are the salient features of this Vidyalaya. There are three playgrounds – one for cricket, one for hockey and football and one for all other games and sports.
